Porsche 911 (992) Dakar Roughroads Rally
Porsche unveiled a remarkable new variant of the 911 at the Los Angeles Auto Show: the 911 Dakar. This new 911 feels just as much at home on the road as it does off the beaten path. Limited to only 2,500 examples worldwide, this exclusive model not only demonstrates that there are virtually no limits to the Porsche 911 concept, but also commemorates Porsche’s first overall victory in the 1984 Paris–Dakar Rally with the specially modified 953 — the first four-wheel-drive 911. For this reason, the new 911 Dakar is optionally available with a Rallye Design Package that pays tribute to that iconic 1984 winner.
What immediately stands out about the Porsche 911 Dakar is its ride height. Compared to a 911 Carrera with sports suspension, the Dakar offers 50 millimeters more ground clearance. In addition, the standard lift system can raise both the front and rear by a further 30 millimeters. This brings ground clearance and approach angles to the level of conventional SUVs. The lift system is not only used for slowly overcoming obstacles, but also forms an integral part of the newly tuned chassis. For ambitious off-road driving, the “high level” setting is available at speeds of up to 170 km/h. Above this speed, the vehicle automatically lowers itself to the normal level.
The specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires, sized 245/45 ZR 19 at the front and 295/40 ZR 20 at the rear, perfectly match the Dakar’s sporty off-road appearance. The aggressive tread features a depth of nine millimeters, while reinforced sidewalls and a dual-ply carcass ensure durability. This makes the Porsche 911 Dakar suitable even for the most demanding off-road conditions. The new Dakar is also optionally available with Pirelli P Zero summer and winter tires, which likewise feature a dual-ply construction. The all-terrain tires that combine off-road capability with sports car dynamics on the road are standard.
Confidence on all terrain
The 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder boxer engine delivers 480 hp (353 kW) and a maximum torque of 570 Nm, providing outstanding performance accompanied by a full, characteristic boxer sound. From a standstill, the new sports car accelerates to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, while top speed is limited to 240 km/h due to the all-terrain tires. The boxer engine of the 911 Dakar is mated as standard to an 8-speed PDK transmission and Porsche all-wheel drive. Rear-axle steering, engine mounts from the 911 GT3, and active roll stabilization (PDCC) are also standard equipment. Thanks to the interaction of these components, the Dakar drives just as dynamically on sand and gravel as it does on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Two new driving modes can be selected via the rotary switch on the steering wheel, both designed to maximize off-road performance. Rallye mode is ideal for loose, uneven surfaces, with all-wheel drive biased toward the rear wheels. In Offroad mode, increased ride height is automatically activated. This mode is designed for maximum traction on challenging terrain and sand. Both driving modes feature the new Rallye Launch Control, allowing for impressive acceleration on loose surfaces as well as wheel slip of around 20 percent.
Other distinguishing features of the 911 Dakar include a newly developed fixed lightweight rear spoiler made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, and the CFRP front lid from the 911 GT3 with its striking ventilation openings. The Dakar also comes standard with off-road details such as red aluminum tow hooks at the front and rear, widened wheel arches and side sills, and stainless-steel skid plates at the front, rear, and along the sills. The air intakes in the front bumper are protected by stainless-steel grilles against flying stones.
The roof of the Porsche 911 Dakar features a clearly visible 12-volt power connection for the spotlights of the optional roof rack. With a load capacity of 42 kilograms, this roof rack can easily carry typical rally accessories such as fuel and water jerry cans, foldable shovels, and traction boards.
Inside, the 911 Dakar underlines its sporting ambitions with standard bucket seats and the omission of the rear seats. Lightweight glass and a lightweight battery further reduce weight, meaning the Porsche 911 Dakar is only ten kilograms heavier than a 911 Carrera 4 GTS with PDK. A clearly distinguishing feature of the Dakar interior is the standard Racetex trim.
Rallye Design Package inspired by the winning 1984 Dakar 911 SC/RS 4x4
The optional Rallye Design Package for the new 911 Dakar is based on the two-tone white and Gentian Blue Metallic livery of the winning 1984 Dakar Rally car. For the first time, Porsche combines two-tone paintwork with decorative foil in series production. On the flanks of the Dakar, customers can choose an individual start number ranging from “1” to “999.” In addition to the red and gold decorative striping, the 911 Dakar with the Rallye Design Package also features the “Roughroads” script on the doors. This name is a registered trademark and refers to the Dakar’s off-road capability. As an option, the Rallye Sport Package is available, including a roll cage, six-point seat belts, and a fire extinguisher.
More about our 992 Dakar
The Dakar we offer was originally delivered new in the Netherlands and is naturally finished in the bi-color White/Gentian Blue with the optional Rallye Design Package. This example is equipped with virtually every available option, including a GT Design steering wheel with heating, the Sport Chrono Package, a fire extinguisher, an ionizer, and contrast stitching in Shark Blue. The first and only owner also opted for the optional roof rack with lighting and accessories such as a shovel, jerry cans, and traction boards — all of which are included in the sale.
To protect the factory paintwork and decals, the previous owner chose to have the Dakar fully covered with paint protection film. This is barely visible to the naked eye, yet effectively protects the paint from external influences, ensuring the Dakar remains as pristine as it should be.
