The 918 Spyder was first shown as a concept at the 80th Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. Following enthusiastic reactions from the press and major Porsche customers, the project was further pursued. On July 28, 2010, the supervisory board of Porsche AG approved the series production of the 918 Spyder after 2,000 expressions of interest. The final production version was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013.
The Porsche 918 Spyder ultimately became a limited (918 units) plug-in hybrid hypercar with a mid-mounted V8 engine. The naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 engine produces 608 horsepower at 8,700 rpm, supported by two electric motors that deliver an additional 286 horsepower, resulting in a combined output of 875 horsepower and a staggering 1,280 Nm of torque. This power allows the 918 Spyder to accelerate to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, reach 200 km/h in 7.2 seconds, and achieve 0-300 km/h in just 19.9 seconds.
