Ferrari 250 GT Lusso
The Ferrari 250 GT Lusso is widely regarded as one of the most elegant road-going Ferraris ever created. Introduced in 1962 as the final evolution of Ferrari’s legendary 250 GT series, the Lusso combined the performance of Maranello’s celebrated Colombo V12 with a beautifully proportioned body designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti. Its long bonnet, low roofline and distinctive fastback rear gave the Lusso a character that was considerably more refined than Ferrari’s competition-oriented models of the period, while retaining the mechanical pedigree that made the 250 series so significant.
Production lasted only until 1964, with just 351 examples built. Underneath the bodywork sits Ferrari’s renowned 3.0-litre Colombo V12, producing approximately 240 HP and paired with a four-speed manual transmission. With its combination of rarity, understated elegance and one of Ferrari’s most celebrated V12 engines, the 250 GT Lusso has become one of the defining grand touring Ferraris of the 1960s.
This particular example, chassis number 4825GT, was completed in 1963 and originally finished in ‘Grigio Argento’ over a ‘Nero’ leather interior. It was delivered new to official Ferrari importer Franco-Britannic Autos Limited in Paris, France, with its first owner taking delivery that same month and registering the car in Paris under registration “3325 PB 75”.
The car was actively enjoyed during its early years. By July 1966, 4825GT had covered almost 35.000 kilometres and was maintained by Ferrari’s Factory Assistenza Clienti in Modena. Its documented connection with the Ferrari factory during this period forms an interesting part of the car’s early history.
In 1978, the Lusso underwent a complete restoration in France, during which the exterior was refinished in red. Four years later, the car was in the ownership of French enthusiast Jean-Pierre Delarue. During his ownership, 4825GT participated in several Ferrari-related events, including the Ferrari France Club Meeting in 1983 and the 20th anniversary celebration of the 250 GT Lusso that same year. Delarue would remain the car’s custodian until 1998.
More recently, 4825GT became part of the collection of a German enthusiast, who entrusted the car to Modena Classic Works in Italy for another comprehensive restoration. The intention at the time was to return the Lusso to its original configuration, with its ‘Grigio Argento’ exterior and ‘Nero’ leather interior.
In 2020, the car was subsequently entrusted to renowned Ferrari specialist Joe Macari in the United Kingdom for further work, including the creation of its current specification. Today, 4825GT is presented in the particularly elegant ‘Blu Julie’, combined with a beautifully contrasting ‘Cuoio’ leather interior. The deep blue exterior perfectly complements the restrained lines of the Lusso, while the warm tan interior gives the car a sophisticated and distinctly period-inspired appearance.
Importantly, a comparison of the internal numbers with those recorded in the accompanying Marcel Massini Report indicates that chassis 4825GT retains its matching-numbers engine and gearbox, further underlining the significance of the car.
Today, Ferrari 250 GT Lusso 4825GT presents in freshly restored condition and is accompanied by a fascinating history spanning more than six decades. From its original delivery in Paris and early maintenance at Ferrari’s factory in Modena to its participation in Ferrari events during the 1980s and its later restoration by respected specialists, it represents an exceptionally attractive example of one of Ferrari’s most celebrated grand tourers.
