The Ferrari 550 Maranello is one of the most iconic models of the 1990s and is often regarded as the revival of Ferrari’s classic GT tradition. Introduced in 1996 as the successor to the Ferrari 512M, the 550 marked a return to the timeless recipe of a front-mounted V12 combined with rear-wheel drive, just like the great Ferrari grand tourers of the 1950s and 1960s.

Beneath its long, elegant bonnet lies a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 producing 485 hp, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox featuring the signature open-gated shifter. This setup propels the 550 from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 4 seconds and on to a top speed of 320 km/h. The balance between raw power and refined handling made it not only a true supercar but also a genuine grand tourer: a car built for crossing continents in comfort, yet equally at home on a mountain pass or a racetrack.

In terms of design, the 550 Maranello is a showcase of understated elegance. Styled by Pininfarina, its flowing lines, wide shoulders, and classic coupé silhouette exude a timeless presence, more restrained than many of its louder contemporaries. Inside, it combines luxury materials such as leather and aluminum with a driver-focused cockpit that is both functional and beautifully crafted.

The 550 Maranello also made a name for itself in motorsport. In private hands, it achieved success in endurance racing, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, proving that Ferrari’s concept of a front-mounted V12 was not only road-worthy but also track-proven.

Today, the Ferrari 550 Maranello is cherished as a highly desirable modern classic and is often praised as one of the last truly analogue V12 GTs Ferrari ever built. Its blend of timeless design, atmospheric V12 soundtrack, and manual transmission makes it increasingly rare and highly sought after.
